I cracked my laptop LCD few months ago. Took it to bestbuy and they quoted me $800 to replace the lcd. I am still wondering why that store is not out of business. This price quote upset me, so i started looking to replace it by myself. I found this, bought it and replaced it in under an hour. If i am not mistaken, the lcd was made by some big name brand. so you are not going to install a generic one. After installation, actually this new screen looks much better and brighter than my origianl sony vaio's screen.

A word of caution: don't open laptop unless you are comfortable with it. I am a highly technical person, so it doesn't bother me. However, my friend was very nervous when i opened it.
