Traditionally, rock speakers have looked like ornaments and not like rocks. Each RS6 style has unique textures and colors that are fashioned after natural rocks. Shaped grilles match the features on the front of the rock, making them blend into the cabinet. All of this extra attention to detail leads to a GeoRealistic(TM) style that enables the RS6 to blend in with other landscaping and disappear. All that will be noticed is the great sound not the loudspeaker. The cabinet is made from fiberglass, it utilizes double seals on the tweeter, woofer and enclosure cover, the woofer drains water away from it, the grilles are painted aluminum and the drivers are made from weather resistant materials. The RS6 has passed the most stringent environmental tests devised. Surviving over 5 years worth of temperature cycling and still having seals that pass a 24-hour submersion test. It has passed the test requirements for Salt Fog, Operating Temperature, Storage Temperature, UV Exposure and Humidity per military standard 883. The unusually stiff and light injection molded TCC (talc, carbon, and ceramic) filled polypropylene cone, the butyl rubber surround, and the substantial magnet and motor structure are optimized for large excursions of the woofer. In this way, the 6.5-inch woofer can create superior bass output. In the end, the woofer design provides deep rich bass and outstanding weather resistance capabilities. In the past, rock speakers have used a co-axial tweeter design that has disappointed listeners with a fatiguing and harsh treble sound caused by tweeter ringing. The RS6`s 1 Teteron tweeter utilizes a tri-laminate design consisting of an inner textile layer which forms the dome, a high damping layer to kill unwanted resonances and an outside layer of urethane to add stiffness and prevent breakup modes. Just wanted to take a moment to complement these fine outdoor speakers. I was on my new patio the other night listening to various music and relaxing. These speakers are very versatile and sound as good as my Boston Acoustics speakers I have indoors. Admittedly they have been babied and only sit outside during spring and summer weather... But they deliver excellent sound quality for both low volume and high volume listening. Of course if you love bass you might have to go upscale a bit..but for me I am very pleased with the RS6s..
