Timber TV Stand in Black w Open Shelf and Storage Review

The frame is all Solid wood as the description says. When I looked at the picture I thought that it had drawers instead of swing open doors. Seeing as to how the doors swing outward from the center I'm just waiting for them to just break off. I'll admit when I put it together they felt nice and solid though. But at the same time it's been very difficult to get them aligned with the magnets that keep the doors closed. So they don't look leveled. Also screwing in the magnets just didn't work out that well because when I tried tightening it the screw just kept turning non-stop so from my experience that shows the center board is made of compressed materials. This would have been perfect had the center board been solid as well. It came out of the box with some minor paint damage from the manufacturer. Overall it's ok.
Pros: The Solid wood frame and lightweight
Cons: Badly designed swing doors and compressed middle board

Ectaco EAL800 Partner English Albanian Talking Dictionary Audio Phrasebook Ectaco Electronic Translator Review

I ordered this product for my best friend and she loves it. It has a lot of useful features and options but it takes time getting used to find what you need. Love the size and the little bag was a nice surprise. The keyboard is easy to use and it does have a touch screen option too.

I haven't seen the translations, so I can't comment on that.

The revolving media tower was easy to assemble and well designed. The Spartak Enterprises distributors did not give me an oak tower but rather a black tower with a cherry wood top. I wrote them about this. I decided to keep the unit because it would be a waste of resources to ship it back. I did ask them to replace the four outer panels at their cost.

Will they do that? Maybe. All in all, it is a precision engineered piece of furniture that would have cost my wood-working wife about $300.00 to construct from solid woods. It does the job effectively for much less.

C2G / Cables to Go 18453 APW Bolt-down Relay Rack (Black, 12/24 Holes) Review

This is an inexpensive rack made from aluminum and looks like what you expect a rack to look like. A package of screws was supplied. There are sufficient screws to mount 5 trays. I cannot remember if they were 10-32 or 12-24 thread. All threads in rack that I used were servicable and all appear to be good with no burrs. All necessary items to put the rack together were present and servicable. I am very happy with this rack and would purchase again. The customer liked the black finish which is a slight krinkle semigloss type. The rack is rigid when the bolts are tightened and have remained tight. This rack is as good as any of the hundreds I have put into service.

Insignia Progressive-Scan Multiformat DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW DVD Recorder/Hi-Fi VCR Combo Review

It is very easy to transfer VHS tapes to DVD-R disks with this unit, insert a blank DVD-R disk, start the tape, and hit the "dubbing" button, that's all. That's the good part. The bad part is that it broke after only 1 month of relatively light use. The VCR motor began making loud grinding noises and nothing would play, including DVDs. Kudos to BB, though, they "fixed" it in only 2 weeks. The unit has worked since (2 months or so), but one time it did make the grinding noises, so I am wary. Also, the picture quality is average to poor on DVD playback compared to my Panasonic CP-72S, so I keep the Panny hooked up also for playback use. By poor picture quality I mean the colors are weaker and you can see jagged edges on diagonal lines. It is certainly watchable, just not as good as 90% of players out there. In conclusion, not a bad buy for what I paid (less than half of list), use it only for VHS transfers and it is probably ok. Keep in mind LG is the old "Goldstar" brand, low end c**p mostly, but they have been successful in improving their quality and image somewhat, but apparently not on this one. If I had to pay full price, I'd consider spending a bit more and getting a better unit.

Update: January 4, 2007: unit has same problem again, motor grinds continuously. Stellar Best Buy customer service refused to provide me a refurbished or replacement unit. Given the issues and poor video quality, into the garbage it goes...

I have scanned about 1,000 35 mm slides without major problems. The quality of the scanned images is good. The bundled software works well. The instruction manual is poorly written, I had to experiment a lot to find the options I need. I wish the scanner had dust and scratch correction, I have to correct each image in Photoshop.
