The MDR-NC600D are the successor of the MDR-500D, Sony's most high quality noise cancelling headphones featuring what Sony calls digital cancelling. I'm not sure what the actual difference between digital and analog noise cancelling is, but one thing is sure: it works. I tried them on a 12hour flight, on the train, and in a car, and that is one of the best noise cancelling system I've tried. I used to own a pair of Bose QC15 and Audio Technica AT-ANC9, and the noise cancelling of the Sony are comparable (although not better). The good thing about these headphones: sound. Crisp, clear treble, nice midrange, and sweet bass. Bass is not exaggerated like it is the case with Beats by Dre headphones. For me, balance between trebles, midrange and bass is perfect for the styles of music I listen to: classical, jazz, blues. I wouldn't recommend them for rap enthusiasts, as bass wouldn't be loud enough.
For the rest, they are comfortable enough to be worn for 12h without any disturbance. The "piano" looks and feel of the earcups is beautiful too.
I've not tried the NC500D (previous generation), but as far as I know the NC600D are more portable because of a smaller soft faux-leather pouch to transport them. I think the battery lasts longer too: it takes 2 hours to charge them full, and you can use them for 15 hours, plus 13 extra hours using AAA battery with the battery pack that comes in the box. That makes a total of 28 hours. Personally I like chargeable batteries better than AAA batteries, since you don't have to buy new batteries each time.
