Topre Realforce86U -USB 86key Keybaord- White [SE0500] Review
I convinced my boss I deserved a christmas bonus so I bought mine off elitekeyboards.com along w/ the separate 10 key.The main keyboard:
Seems reasonably well made, but still plastic, plastic everywhere. Some heft indicating metal inside somewhere.
No click to it
quiet.
If these are the selling points...i don't see it. A $10 chinese special keyboard has more click to it.
replaceable capslock to one that's smaller and more out of the way (for FPS i would imagine)
remappable (dip switches on back) capslock to CTRL for same reason.
replacement wasd and esc keys for high visibility/geek factor.
Programmable to make JKL; into a tenkey w/ the numlock key where scrolllock used to be. All this is is weird and would take some learning to get used to. Probably shoulda put this key somewhere on the left so you didn't have to move hands all over the place.
The tenkey:
Has more of a calculator layout.
An extra 0 key next to the normal one that's a 00 (or programmable to 000)
An extra = key in top right corner where the - should be and moved the - key down to where the top half of the + should be. (reduced to single key size)
I've popped these two keys off. now it looks homeless missing two keys, but more annoying hitting them.
4 extra keys along the top for esc, tab, bs, shift. not in the way, but not useful.
My next christmas bonus may be for something w/ blue cherry switches. I really liked my old IBM model M, but can't get it in a space saver with the windows keys. I like the space saver because I like the ergonomics to have the mouse more comfortable where the 10key used to be...but now i'm dual monitor and tend to flare out my hands anyway...
I also had a nice adesso piece w/ laptop keys, but alas, not waterproof.
*update 10/10/13*
After using this thing for over a year now...I've become obsessed with it. I love this keyboard and just hate all others. (I did use a DasKeyboard the other day and did like it)
I would give it 4.5 stars now and only downgraded for price (and the goofy layout of the tenkey - that's still weird and I still make mistakes on it after a year)
**
Overall, the bill for both w/ tax and shipper was $470. Glad it wasn't my money.
