I found this handy, lightweight unit fantastic for external recording with nearly breathtaking results. Even with the provided microphone I was impressed. You can also record from almost any inline source, and it can even be used for storing 1 GB of data from your computer onto these mini-discs! The box has everything you need, including earphones and the battery with a recharger.

You can work with high quality uncompressed linear PCM audio and the media for it is inexpensive. I'm not sure what the other reviewer's problem is with any of it, but my guess is that reading the manual and exploring the options could remedy that.

Once downloaded to your Mac or PC, you can easily work with the .wav format in other applications. The high price of $699 mystifies me (perhaps discontinued item?), since it is far less elsewhere, but it's a wonderful package that I can highly recommend.
