The Good: This boom arm has a beautiful machined post that simply drops into the top of the riser with no fastener. The backside of the riser has an XLR feed-through whereby the provided cable drops through the base. However, there is a drawback in that the end of the cable is without the XLR fitting so you'll need to add that yourself. Frankly, I didn't bother with it so I just lifted it out from the top and bypassed it altogether.



The arm spring tension is quite strong so for lighter microphones you may simply remove one or two springs. This provides three tension options based on your needs and I find that very convenient.



The Final Choice: In the end I decided to go with the pro-boom 45-inch extended reach with the same 15-inch riser. It provides significantly more tension options and a more generous reach from wherever you decide the mount the riser. For my taste I prefer to lean back in a low-rider position in my office chair, and the 45-inches comes in very handy. In combination with the riser I'm able to clear everything on my desk while the boom arm easily clears the top of my 27-inch display. Please know this is strictly my personal preference as both incorporate the same quality, although the extended reach is unquestionably more versatile. Some may not like the overall appearance of the fixture but in my view it not only works well, it looks very nice.

Overall, O.C. White makes really high quality mounting arms in a multitude of sizes, colors, and heights. Though Amazon is a great source I recommend you check around for the best price.
