On my boat the GPS is down below, and the repeater is in the cockpit. It's great. K.I.S.S. is a guiding principle on the boat. Fewer simple systems reduce the number of complex problems. I do upload waypoints to the GPS using a laptop, but have manually entered hundreds of waypoints from light lists and manually calculated from paper charts. If you're an electronics hound, grooving on digital charts and plotters, then I'm not sure that it's something you'd particularly need -- maybe to run it back down below. But for how I sail, I love this instrument. The Clipper Repeater and the Spade Anchor are my two most favorite pieces of equipment on the boat. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Clipper GPS Repeater" are high quality item.
