When I first got the shipping box from UPS, i thought that it was kind of big and heavy for such a small lens. My first thought was that the seller had messed up my order and sent me a Canon EF 100-400 IS USM lens instead of a Vivitar doubler. Opened the box and there was this beautiful wooden box inside, I thought that this time I might be getting a fine piece of nautical instrument,........no it was the extender.

If I was to rate the wooden box that it came in, I would give it a five star review, I'm not! The autofocus on the Vivitar doesn't work with my Canon, or it doesn't work most of the time, it just can't zoom on a subject and focus, you have to focus manually. My Canon 18-55 IS USM is not compatible with the extender. My Canon EF 75-300MM does work fine with the extender but it's better if you use manual focus. I've only had the thing for 3 days, I'm just learning how to play with it, it works better on AV setting than program, and in some case I'm having to use a higher ISO and exposure time. I'm just waiting for my new tripod to get here, so I can use the whole setup with it and a release cable. Pictures so far aren't bad, but when I did enlarge this photo of a jetliner flying high above on my computer, the results were a little grainy and reminded me of the old propaganda photos from the Soviet Union that I used to see in military magazines. For $140.00, I can't expect the same results as a $500.00 extender. Will keep it for now and might update my review after I try the thing on a tripod.

No complaints with the seller (New World Video) the item did arrived in good shape and way ahead of schedule.

UPDATE: I've owned this extender for almost 4 months now and the results are better than what I was expecting. Took a lot's of pictures of birds in the feeder with my new tripod of course and the results were pretty good. Everything is manual focus ( auto-focus won't work ) but so was my old Canon AE-1 Program. You will also need to raise the ISO, but I was impressed with the details. For about $ 150.00 it is not that bad, and since the big Japanese earthquake I've noticed a big price change on Canon equipment, so this thing will definately have to do for now.
