Product Description
This wide-angle conversion lens covers a maximum field angle equivalent to approx. 19.3mm (35mm film camera equivalent) when used with the DX-1200HD/860G. (The lens can be used on land as well as underwater.) *The lens can be used on land, but slight vignetting (dimming) may occur in the four corners of the image. Slightly zoom in to telephoto to eliminate vignetting. *When the wide-angle conversion lens is attached, its shadow can appear on the picture if the built-in flash is used. Using an external strobe together with the built-in flash is recommended.Sea & Sea 0.55x Wide Angle Conversion Lens for DX-1200HD, DX-860G & DX-750G Cameras Review
I have the DX-1200HD camera. I used the camera with the standard lens for the first few months. The pictures were good, but you had to back off a bit to get the whole subject in the frame. This made it difficult to use the flash (too much backscatter or not enough light) or if the flash was not used, then the visibility played a factor in how clearly you could see the subject.Once I got this lens, I used it almost exclusively when taking photos. When you take underwater photos, the closer you are to the subject, the better the photos come out. With this lens, you can get in close and not worry about the flash reaching the subject or having visibility affecting your picture.
When taking more expansive pictures of reefs or wrecks, you again are able to get more in when you are closer, taking advantage of the ambient light.
The only drawback I can find is Sea & Sea does not seem to make a lens holder for the bayonett threads on this lens. I have older film Sea & Sea cameras, and I liked using multiple lenses in the same dive. Having somewhere to store them securely when not in use is a must. Until I find or make something, I have to commit to what lens I will use when I start the dive. I'm getting a close-up lens next. It would be nice to take both at the same time.
