After years of enjoying great audio quality from a set of Polk Audio tower speakers that I happened to acquire from my ex-boyfriend in 1998, I knew it was time to move on. I'd just moved into a condo complex and the space that those bad boys took up in my living room was a little too much. So I sold them on e-Bay and bought these in-ceiling speakers from Russound.I'm not a speaker expert. But I know plenty of people who are. I am, however, an avid music expert. I listen to music every night when I come home and after being spoiled by big tower speakers with 2 woofers, 2 mid-ranges, and a nice tweeter, I was worried how these would sound in my home.
I'm also not that handy, though I did go on YouTube (like I do for everything now) and watched a bunch of videos on how to install these suckers. Lemme tell ya, cutting the drywall is the easy part -- running the wires was a pain but I had a friend of mine come over to help. After a couple of glasses of wine, the wire part seemed to get a little easier.
Since I was worried about sound quality, I also purchased some Russound Flexboxes (flexible back boxes) and wrote a review on that. Those puppies ROCK and they really enhance the sound quality that come from these speakers (which are much better than I expected from an in-ceiling speaker). We installed the flexboxes and then screwed in the speakers (after connecting the wire, of course....we didn't have THAT much wine). If you have a cordless power screwdriver (and what woman doesn't these days?), then that part is a breeze. You can even paint the grilles, but my ceilings are white so I just popped them in. That's a bit tough - probably because I wasn't born with a gift for manual labor.
The sound quality from these speakers was AWESOME! Also, having the audio coming from my ceiling now makes the Rolling Stones sound heavenly (Mick, I love you).
