I originally bought the mxl 990s before I even knew about the MXL name. Man, let me tell you the MXL 990s did excellent work for me and it opened many doors to the name MXL (for me anyway). The MXL 4000 is excellent for vocals. I am a producer/rapper and I have been around many mics including AKG, NUEMANN, AUDIO TECHNICA and more... If you're on a budget...Hey this is the way to go.... I own all 3 MXL 990, 990s, 990XL and now the 4000. Great mic for the price. You wont be disappointed!
