The Lava SUB-10 is a front-firing, front-ported powerhouse featuring an 8 inch cellulose composite woofer. We don't use cheap paper cardboard woofers. This is the real deal and part of why Lava subwoofers outperform the competition.

The Lava SUB-10 is powered by a 100 watt internal amplifier that provides home theater and stereo bass you can feel.

Lava SUB-10 powered subwoofer extends the low frequency response of the system below 40Hz, with a low pass frequency response in the range of 37-150 Hz (+/-3 dB) and a 60 - 180 Hz continuously variable low pass crossover. In a surround sound system the SUB-10 provides stunning reproduction of the LFE (low frequency effects) channel in the range of 20-380 Hz (+/-3dB). I received this subwoofer after using a cheap KLH 10" "250w" powered subwoofer for my home theater. As soon as I set it up, I did notice one thing, and that was a hum that I didn't have with my last subwoofer. A 75 cent fix took care of the whole problem. I was getting a ground loop somehow through my cable going to my television. A "cheater" plug took care of it and have never had a problem with that since. I noticed a HUGE improvement over the last sub as far as depth of range, and really feeling like its unidirectional and not focused from any one point. It has such incredible lows for a 10" sub and I've listened to subs at 4 times the price that I didn't think were any improvement over this sub. This is very comparable to something like an Epik Subwoofer in my opinion and if you want really high quality sound without spending a fortune, go for this. Eric at lavasubs.com will take care of you if there are any issues, and its still a fairly small company taking off so give these guys a chance. I noticed virtually no port "chuffing" and the seamless fade from my Klipsch Icons that go down to about 41hz into the sub that takes over at about 45-50hz is flawless. I truly can't tell you enough how solid this thing is for the money. I have felt others that feel a hair better and maybe aesthetics could be improved but for the sound quality and what you get, this Lava Sub is unmatched.

As an introduction, I purchased these drives for use in a simple redundant Windows Storage Spaces Volume in Microsoft Windows Server 2012. The drives physical construction was impressive, even compared to other nearline drives, such as the WD RE4 2 TB Enterprise Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, SATA II, 64 MB Cache - WD2003FYYS, and their performance is also comparable to other nearline drives. I purchased these drives because I have become fed up with the RE4's, of which I have had two electrical failures on new (less than two years old under intermittent use) drives - something that should not happen with drives of this class.

The physical construction of these drives is very impressive. They are substantially heavier than a Western Digial RE4 drive of the same capacity which I had on hand, and the overall machining of the underside and faceplate was far more nicely done, not that this has any impact on serviceability. The drive does not rattle when shaken, and seems likely to survive any conditions found in a server or datacenter. I configured these drives in a Windows Storage Spaces Volume on a Dell PowerEdge T110-II running Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition, with single-redundancy. The resulting volume has exhibited slightly better performance than the RE4's in the same configuration, with reads sustaining 150 Mb/sec under most conditions. I only have the drives three months, but thus far all SMART indications are normal, even under long-term sustained read and writes.

Overall, I would recommend these drives over the RE4's for nearline applications, due to my poor experiences of late with the RE4. The physical build and my experiences up to this point inspire confidence, I will update if they prove otherwise. A note on price: you should not pay more than $150-$160 a piece of these. Since Amazon's partners in the marketplace can get a little funny on pricing with low volume items, shop around for a good setup.

ClaireChase Sierra Laptop Back Pack (Saddle) Review

ClairChase makes a very nice leather back pack but the Sierra Pack I purchased was listed to fit up 15" laptops. That claim is not even close. CC's website makes this claim. I have a 15" and it stuck out the top of the pack by at least 2". The cover would barely close and the snaps were not close to snapping shut.

I traded the CC Sierra for the CC Jumbo back pack. Again, the Jumbo is very nice but it claims to hold 17" laptops. My 15" laptop fits right to the brim and tightly fills the width of the laptop pocket. I don't know how a monster 17" laptop would even begin to fit in the Jumbo.

PLEASE NOTE THIS: I highly recommend buying from LeatherPaks here on Amazon. Walt worked with me very quickly on my exchange of the Sierra for the Jumbo.
