Slik SH-909 Professional 3-Way Pan Head, Supports 22 Lbs. Review

I tried a bunch of 3-way heads over the years including the top of the line from Gitzo and Bogen/Manfrotto. This is clearly the best one for me.

It is smoother than the largest Gitzo 3-way (5 series)and all the Bogen 3-way heads. The 2-series Gitzo was very smooth and is lighter than this Slik head, but it has a low-load capacity (certainly ok for lighter camera/lens setups).

I found it very easy to attach and remove my cameras - there is plenty of clearance and the thumbwheel is comfortable and easy to use (unlike the Gitzo heads). The bubble levels seem accurate and are easy
to use.

The downside is the weight, but there are always trade-offs. The cost is very reasonable in comparison to the other heads I've referred to and I feel the quality is as high or better than all of time.

This head is a totally different breed than the low-cost Slik heads, just as their professional tripods are from their most popular tripods. This head is the best 3-way head I have ever used.

• Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry
• Polyethylene Air-Tubes
• Carbon-Based 3-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS)

Product Description

Take the Plunge Into True High-End Audio AudioQuest's Victoria mini cables feature Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors, an insulation system designed with Polyethylene Air-Tubes, and AudioQuest's brilliant 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) for a marked sonic upgrade over standard mini cables, improved dynamic response, and a truly uplifting listening experience. While theoreticians debate whether the true nature of the universe is analog or digital, one constant in our audiophile galaxy is that the music, dialogue, and sound effects which reach our ears is analog. In order to preserve this precious cargo, AudioQuest has designed a range of analog interconnects optimized for the single-ended world. Victoria takes advantage of years of carefully balancing design and material selection in order to bring you a series of interconnects which, as much as possible, "Do No Harm" to the original audio signal. Solid Core Conductors Victoria, like virtually all of AQ's cables, uses solid-core conductors for the analog pathway. Solid-core conductors are more efficient at transmitting small signals than stranded cables and are also vastly lower in distortion, a difference that is clearly audible from the first instant; the system sounds like someone turned up the volume! This efficiency also translates to more music coming through, plug in a Victoria and hear things in your music you've never heard before, literally! Perfect Surface Copper + (PSC+) Victoria receives AQ's best copper, PSC+. A higher grade of copper than PSC, PSC+ receives the same proprietary Perfect Surface polishing process which, as the name implies, smoothes the surface of the conductors. Since treble and midrange frequencies travel very close to the surface in a solid-core conductor, eliminating even microscopic roughness on the surface of the conductor greatly reduces distortion. Sonically, PSC+ is vastly more resolving than PSC, like lifting a sheet off

AUDIOQUEST - VICTORIA MINI-TO-MINI 1.0M Review

I admit, the prices are an issue (especially with the silver interconnects), they are charging a good price, but for the best cables on earth. I have two Junior Outcasts (outdoor speakers) next to eachother by the tv at the moment, I have it split with an Angel PSS (Perfect Silver Surface) cable to one, and the Victoria to the other. The Angel cable is about a thousand dollars, and the Victoria obviously much less, and mostly copper instead.

I LOVE the Diamond and Angel Silver series, they're on fire, making my music sound the best it ever has.

Listening closely (at lower volumes) I could not tell the difference between the Victoria and the Angel (the splitter is a custom AQ Angel as well).

At high volume, the Victoria couldn't really keep up, but it did very well. The Victoria also has the DBS (Dialectec Bias Sysytem -that thing with the battery on your fancy cables). This is said by the pro's to eliminate ambient distortions and also cancel the break-in process for the cable.

Victoria is a winner, great cable for above "entry-level" audiophilia.

cheers

IOGear 2-Port Symphony KVM Switch with USB Video Card, USB Hub, and Cables GCS1772 (Grey) Review

I've been using a Linksys 4 port KVM since 2000 and it's been great. The only problem is that there is no USB sharing and all of the connections for keyboard and mouse are PS2. So, I decided it was time to upgrade. After all the research, this appeared to be the product. I was excited to get the unit delivered and open it up. I disconnected the old KVM and hooked up the new one only to find a few big issues. Port 1 had the keyboard working great, but my Microsoft Optical mouse kept blinking red. On port 3, the mouse worked great, but the keyboard refused to function. I powered everything off and reset the connectors hoping that would fix it. Still no go. I even switched out a few of the cables to rule that out. The manual says to make sure you have the latest firmware found on their web site, so I went to their web site and could not find any firmware listed. I even used their search field looking for 'firmware'. One document came up with the term, but no downloads to be found. I called their support line expecting them to be closed on a Sundy, but amazingly enough a gentleman answered. This is what I find amazing - he told me that they do not support multi-function mice and keyboards. Nor do they support mother boards with the Nvidia chip set. I find that amazing because this is a USB 2.0 sharing device and my keyboards are a Logitech corded keyboard and the mouse is a Microsoft Optical Mouse Blue (typical two buttons and a wheel). Not anything fancy. I even tried my old Dell USB keyboard.

So, I'm assuming two things: the device was faulty and the guy in support either didn't know what he was talking about or Iogear is putting out junk with pretty packaging. I'm going to back Linksys.

Sony RHT-S10 Home Theater Built-In Sound Rack System Review

Sony RHT-S10 Home Theater Built-In Sound Rack System
I purchased this sound system to augment my new Samsung 67 inch LCD/DLP television which has just average internal speakers. I wanted a simple straight forward listening device which would bring me Surround Sound and Dolby Digital. This unit fit my requirements perfectly in that it has HDMI inputs (2) and an HDMI output, as well as an optical input. I connected my Comcast STB (Explorer 8300HD) via the optical, directly to this unit thereby providing me the Digital 5.1/ Dolby Sound. This in turn eliminates sound going to the TV, which is preferable for me. I then connected the DVD player to the Sony sound system via HDMI and finally connected the Sony Theater to the TV via HDMI. The sound is just great, as the sub woofer is built in to the sound bar and is not overly loud, which is desirable for my listening taste.
I did a lot of research before buying the Sony Theater and although this is a new unit and there are no reviews yet, I thought it must be better than the others I read about, which all seemed to have an issue or two. My Comcast remote will turn this unit on, as well as the TV, and SA 8300, which is a must for me. I can control the sound via the aux button on the remote.
One interesting issue, this unit is made for wall mounting and comes with a center woofer speaker on the bottom. I wanted to place it on a shelf within my TV cabinet so I had to lift the sound bar up off the glass shelf using felt pads, it worked just fine but you need almost 8 inches of open shelf space to accomplish this task. I called Sony and asked them to consider making a cradle or add feet for this purpose.
My first listening experience was a Red Sox Game and the Dolby came through big time, every change of a graphic was accompanied by a swoosh, pretty entertaining stuff. I recommend this unit to anyone who wants a quality listening experience, good looks and the latest technological interfaces.
